Posted by Nancy Carrizales on 6/17/23

In the backyard of the house where I live with other priests, there is a lemon tree which produces a huge amount of fruit. One evening in the spring I needed some lemons for a chicken dish. I glanced from the kitchen and saw the tree bursting with large, ... Read More »

The Real Presence of Jesus in Holy Communion

According to a 2019 Pew Research poll, approximately 31% of Catholics in the United States believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Are you part of the 69% that believe the bread and wine are just symbols or ... Read More »

The Most Holy Trinity/La Santísima Trinidad June 4, 2023

Posted by Nancy Carrizales on 6/03/23

In my experience, one of the peculiarities of being a man is the somewhat unlikely ability to look into the mirror, no matter how out of shape he may be, and declare with full confidence: “Looking good, buddy!” Ask a man. He’ll probably confirm it. Therein lies a mystery. ... Read More »

PENTECOST SUNDAY

Posted by Nancy Carrizales on 5/27/23

Come Holy Spirit!

Last weekend, I offered a prayer during my homily that I think is worth repeating in print (see below).  It is a prayer that asks for God’s Holy Spirit to guide us and lead us and it is very appropriate on this Feast of Pentecost!  Additionally, ... Read More »

Happy Easter Sacrament Season

As you know, there are four seasons on the calendar: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. On the Universal Church Liturgical Calendar, there are three primary seasons: Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter, and Ordinary Time (divided into two sections). However, there are other ways of looking at the church ... Read More »

The Third Sunday of Easter

Posted by Nancy Carrizales on 4/21/23

Today, the same Jesus whose Paschal Mystery (that is His life, death, and resurrection) we celebrate every time we get together for mass, will be speaking with each of us just as He spoke with the two disciples walking downtrodden away from Jerusalem. It will not be one ... Read More »

The Second Sunday of Easter April 16, 2023

Give Praise and Thanks to God – Alleluia!

We continue our Easter Season, as today is the Eighth day of Easter and the Second Sunday of Easter.  In a sense, it is the Alleluia Season. We will continue to have extra Alleluias throughout the 50 days of the Easter Season.

We have lots to thank and praise God for – the biggest is our core belief that Jesus was raised from the dead!  Have doubts about that?  Re-read the part of today’s Gospel where Thomas (one of the twelve Apostles) has lots of doubts that Jesus is alive.  While we don’t know where he was on that first Easter night, we do know that the following Sunday (the octave) Thomas was with the other disciples when Jesus appeared ...
