Please help with our need for more vocations to the priesthood!  

For the past few weeks, we have been invited to pray about vocations to the priesthood.  Hopefully, by now, a name or two has come to mind and on your heart. You may wonder why or what that means. I think that means that that person should be encouraged to discern about the possibility of becoming a priest.

While the discernment process takes time, it is a process!  Some will be led by the Holy Spirit – through grace and prayer to get closer to God.  Some will even feel “I think I may be being called to the priesthood.” For me, when I told my family and friends that I thought I was being called to the priesthood the responses were all positive – from that “makes sense” to I can see that in you.  One actually said – I knew it and it’s about time!

A number of people have encouraged me to start the journey and many along the way encouraged me to continue.  While it wasn’t always easy, as long as I trusted in the Lord, prayed and was open to God’s will and call, everything fell into place.

This weekend and next we are all being asked to complete cards with name(s) of young (and not so young), single men who you may think would make a good priest.  We ask that you return these cards next weekend in order that we can provide those names and contact information to the Vocation Office.  They will then be invited to an evening of prayer and discussion about priesthood in our diocese. “The harvest is plenty, the laborers are few.” (Mt 9:35) Please help us find men who may make good priests – thank you! —Fr. ¡Por favor, ayúdenos con nuestra necesidad de más vocaciones al sacerdocio!  

Durante las últimas semanas, se nos ha invitado a rezar por las vocaciones al sacerdocio.  Es de esperar que, a estas alturas, uno o dos nombres hayan venido a tu mente y a tu corazón. Os preguntaréis por qué o qué significa eso. Creo que significa que hay que animar a esa persona a discernir sobre la posibilidad de ser sacerdote.

Aunque el proceso de discernimiento lleva tiempo, ¡es un proceso!  Algunos serán guiados por el Espíritu Santo - a través de la gracia y la oración para acercarse a Dios.  Algunos incluso sentirán «creo que puedo estar siendo llamado al sacerdocio». Para mí, cuando le dije a mi familia y amigos que pensaba que estaba siendo llamado al sacerdocio las respuestas fueron todas positivas - desde ese “tiene sentido” hasta puedo ver eso en ti.  De hecho, uno dijo: “¡Lo sabía y ya era hora!” 

Varias personas me han animado a iniciar el camino y muchas en el camino me han animado a continuar.  Aunque no siempre fue fácil, mientras confié en el Señor, oré y estuve abierta a la voluntad y la llamada de Dios, todo encajó. 

Este fin de semana y el próximo se nos pide que rellenemos tarjetas con nombres de hombres jóvenes (y no tan jóvenes) solteros que creáis que podrían ser buenos sacerdotes.  Os pedimos que devolváis estas tarjetas el próximo fin de semana para que podamos proporcionar esos nombres e información de contacto a la Oficina de Vocaciones.  A continuación, se les invitará a una velada de oración y debate sobre el sacerdocio en nuestra diócesis. “La mies es mucha, los obreros pocos.” (Mt 9:35) Por favor ayúdenos a encontrar hombres que puedan ser buenos sacerdotes - ¡gracias!  —P.
