Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!

We hear these words from John the Baptist in today’s Gospel.  He was preaching that the Lord, whom we call Jesus, was coming! We now head into the second week of Advent, preparing our homes, etc., for the great season of Christmas!  What do we need to repent from?  What do we really need to prepare?  Is it just about shopping, wrapping, baking, cooking, cleaning?  Or is there something more?  While it is a wonderful time to see family, friends, co-workers and celebrate “the holidays,” as Catholic Christians we need to be better prepared for Jesus’ birthday and the twelve days after his birth.  Why not save some of the gatherings until after December 25?  Make the time during these four weeks of Advent to prepare your mind, heart and soul to be open to the Holy Spirit’s guiding. In the verse before the Gospel today we hear the words that are familiar to us: Prepare the way of the Lord!  Perhaps this week is a good time to pray the words John the Baptist preached 2000 years ago!  Prepare and Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!  Please see inside for the available times for confession in our tri-parish churches and at St. Mary’s in Hudson. ¡Arrepentíos porque el Reino de los Cielos está cerca!

Escuchamos estas palabras de Juan el Bautista en el Evangelio de hoy. ¡Él estaba predicando que el Señor, a quien llamamos Jesús, vendría! ¡Ahora nos dirigimos a la segunda semana de Adviento, preparando nuestros hogares, etc., para la gran temporada de Navidad! ¿De qué necesitamos arrepentirnos? ¿Qué necesitamos preparar realmente? ¿Se trata solo de comprar, envolver, hornear, cocinar, limpiar? ¿O hay algo más? Si bien es un momento maravilloso para ver a familiares, amigos, compañeros de trabajo y celebrar "las fiestas", como cristianos católicos debemos estar mejor preparados para el cumpleaños de Jesús y los doce días posteriores a su nacimiento. ¿Por qué no guardar algunas de las reuniones hasta después del 25 de diciembre? Tómese el tiempo durante estas cuatro semanas de Adviento para preparar su mente, corazón y alma para estar abiertos a la guía del Espíritu Santo. En el versículo antes del Evangelio de hoy escuchamos las palabras que nos son familiares: ¡Preparad el camino del Señor! ¡Tal vez esta semana sea un buen momento para orar las palabras que Juan el Bautista predicó hace 2000 años! ¡Prepárense y arrepiéntanse porque el Reino de los Cielos está cerca!
