The Real Presence of Jesus in Holy Communion

According to a 2019 Pew Research poll, approximately 31% of Catholics in the United States believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Are you part of the 69% that believe the bread and wine are just symbols or are you one of those who correctly believe in transubstantiation or that what looks like bread and wine really are, after the priest calls on the Holy Spirit to change them, the Precious Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ?

Recently we started offering “the cup” at all our weekend masses and will do so at daily masses as well.  The contents of the cup looks and tastes like wine, but it is consecrated wine and Catholics are called to believe that while it still looks and tastes like wine, it is the Precious Blood of Jesus and we should respect it as such.

The National Eucharistic Rival, which started June 2022 is a three-year initiative sponsored by the bishops of the U.S. to inspire and prepare the People of God (us included) to be formed, healed, converted, united, and sent out to a hurting and hungry world through a renewed encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist.  Over the next few weeks and months, there will be many articles and homilies that will touch on these important topics. For now, it is important to pray about what it means when we read or hear that the Eucharist is the source and summit of our Catholic Faith.

La Presencia Real de Jesús en la Sagrada Comunión

Según una encuesta de Pew Research de 2019, aproximadamente el 31% de los católicos en los Estados Unidos creen en la Presencia Real de Jesús en la Eucaristía. ¿Eres parte del 69% que cree que el pan y el vino son solo símbolos o eres uno de los que cree correctamente en la transubstanciación o que lo que parece pan y vino realmente lo son, después de que el sacerdote invoca al Espíritu Santo para que los cambie? el Cuerpo y la Sangre Preciosos de nuestro Señor y Salvador, Jesucristo?

Recientemente comenzamos a ofrecer “la copa” en todas nuestras misas de fin de semana y lo haremos también en las misas diarias. El contenido de la copa se ve y sabe a vino, pero es vino consagrado y los católicos están llamados a creer que aunque todavía se ve y sabe a vino, es la Preciosa Sangre de Jesús y debemos respetarla como tal.

El Rival Eucarístico Nacional, que comenzó en junio de 2022, es una iniciativa de tres años patrocinada por los obispos de los EE. UU. para inspirar y preparar al Pueblo de Dios (incluidos nosotros) para ser formado, sanado, convertido, unido y enviado a un mundo herido. y hambriento a través de un encuentro renovado con Jesús en la Eucaristía. Durante las próximas semanas y meses, habrá muchos artículos y homilías que tocarán estos importantes temas. Por ahora, es importante orar sobre lo que significa cuando leemos o escuchamos que la Eucaristía es la fuente y cumbre de nuestra fe católica.
