Happy Easter to all! Yes, it’s still Easter and will be until the Feast of Pentecost in early June. Today’s Gospel is one of my favorite Gospels, especially for the Easter season. The reason that it is a favorite is that it starts off on the evening of the first day of the
week (Easter Sunday), where Jesus appeared to the apostles and other disciples in the upper room, where the doors were locked. Jesus appears and greets them with, “Peace Be with You!” However, Thomas, one of the twelve was not there that night. When he heard that Jesus was alive – he continued to doubt. Who would ever think or believe that Jesus or anyone could be raised from the dead!? The other disciples attempted to convince him and even told Thomas that “we have seen the Lord!” However, he continued his disbelief until a week later (that’s today) and Jesus appeared to the Apostles and Disciples again. This time – Thomas believed! He replied: “My Lord and My God.” So, even when we have doubts about God, or faith, or the Resurrection of Jesus, we can recall this Gospel – and know that even when one of the twelve didn’t believe, Jesus still loved him and He loves us! Bring your doubts to prayer and accept the love, peace and mercy Jesus has for each of us! ¡Feliz Pascua a todos! Sí, todavía es Pascua y lo será hasta la fiesta de Pentecostés, a principios de junio. El Evangelio de hoy es uno de mis favoritos, especialmente para el tiempo de Pascua. La razón es que comienza la noche del primer día de la semana (Domingo de Pascua), cuando Jesús se apareció a los apóstoles y a otros discípulos en el aposento alto, donde las puertas estaban cerradas. Jesús aparece y les saluda con un «¡La paz sea con ustedes!». Sin embargo, Tomás, uno de los doce no estaba allí esa noche. Cuando se enteró de que Jesús estaba vivo, siguió dudando. ¿Quién podría pensar o creer que Jesús o alguien pudiera resucitar de entre los muertos? Los otros discípulos intentaron convencerle e incluso le dijeron a Tomás que «¡hemos visto al Señor!». Sin embargo, él continuó con su incredulidad hasta que una semana después (eso es hoy) y Jesús se apareció a los Apóstoles y Discípulos de nuevo. Esta vez - ¡Tomás creyó! Así que, incluso cuando tenemos dudas sobre Dios, o la fe, o la Resurrección de Jesús, podemos recordar este Evangelio—y saber que incluso cuando uno de los doce no creyó, ¡Jesús todavía le amaba y nos ama!
