The Catholic Community of Northern Columbia County

As most of you know by now, Bishop Scharfenberger called all the priests of the diocese to a special meeting and retreat this past  week. This article was written on the first night of the retreat, as the retreat leader’s flight was delayed, and the presenter for Remade for Mission gave us some information to start the week. The following is an overview of what I have heard and, hopefully, more will be available this weekend. Thank you for your understanding.

Starting in mid-October through March of 2026, each network will be encouraged to host Synod-style meetings on specific topics generated by the working group on Remade for Mission. Each month will have different topics, so there will need to be a commitment for those who want to be engaged. As of right now, it appears that there will be six or so listening sessions on given topics, including: the current financial state of our parishes; how we are fulfilling the mission of the Church as individual parishes; the condition of the buildings; clergy and leadership wellness (are the same people doing the majority of ministries? what is the contingency plan if either of our “semi-retired” priests are no longer able to assist us?); and, identifying the changes that need to be made within the CCNCC network. Ultimately, what are our recommendations as the CCNCC to the bishop for the Remade for Mission process? Some of these
topics may change, but if there are two words that I cannot emphasize enough, they are TRANSPARENCY & COMMUNICATION.

When changes are decided in the future, it is my hope that no one will come forward and say anything along the lines of, “I wish I had
known," or “no one told me," or “I had no idea.” Reading the bulletin or our website (ccnccparishes.org) or the diocesan website (rcda.org/ remadeformission) can only keep you so informed. Plan to come to at least some of these synods. Locations and date/times TBD.

Remade For Mission - Actualización

Como la mayoría de ustedes ya saben, el Obispo Scharfenberger convocó a todos los sacerdotes de la diócesis a una reunión especial y a un retiro la semana pasada. Este artículo fue escrito en la primera noche del retiro, ya que el vuelo del líder del retiro se retrasó y el presentador de Remade for Mission nos dio alguna información para empezar la semana. Lo que sigue es un resumen de lo que he oído y, con suerte, habrá más información este fin de semana. Gracias por su comprensión. 

A partir de mediados de octubre y hasta marzo de 2026, se animará a cada red a organizar reuniones al estilo del Sínodo sobre temas
específicos generados por el grupo de trabajo sobre «Remade for Mission ». Cada mes habrá temas diferentes, por lo que tendrá que haber un compromiso para aquellos que quieran participar. Por el momento, parece que habrá unas seis sesiones de escucha sobre determinados temas, entre ellos: el estado financiero actual de nuestras parroquias; cómo estamos cumpliendo la misión de la Iglesia como parroquias individuales; el estado de los edificios; el bienestar del clero y de los líderes (¿son las mismas personas las que realizan la mayoría de los ministerios? ¿cuál es el plan de contingencia si alguno de nuestros sacerdotes «semi-retirados» ya no puede ayudarnos? En última instancia, ¿cuáles son nuestras recomendaciones como CCNCC al obispo para el proceso Remade for Mission?
Algunos de estos temas pueden cambiar, pero si hay dos palabras que no puedo enfatizar lo suficiente, son TRANSPARENCIA Y COMUNICACIÓN.

Cuando se decidan cambios en el futuro, tengo la esperanza de que nadie venga y diga algo parecido a: «Ojalá lo hubiera sabido», o «nadie me lo dijo», o «no tenía ni idea». Leer el boletín o nuestra página web (ccnccparishes.org) o la página web diocesana (rcda.org/
