Today we celebrate the Solemnity, the great Feast of Pentecost! It signifies several important events in the life of the Universal Church: it is the final day of the Easter Season! It is the day the Holy Spirit comes from God the Father and Jesus Christ to the Apostles and to us! We extinguish the Easter/Paschal Candle and place it closer to the Baptismal Font, only to be lit during Baptisms and Funerals for
the remainder of the Church year. The Liturgical Year returns to the season of “Ordinary Time” once again, starting tomorrow. However, next Sunday and the following Sunday, the Church has us celebrate another two important feasts – Trinity Sunday and Corpus
Christ Sunday, more on those in the coming weeks.

Lastly, Pentecost is sometimes called the birthday of the Church, because it is when - after Jesus left on Ascension and sent the Holy Spirit - that the Apostles (and we) are told to, “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)

This is the quote that Bishop Ed has used in his re-inventing the diocese and his project to review the use of parish and school buildings and to help determine how many parishes are needed in the diocese. As of the deadline for this bulletin (earlier this week),
I have received no further information.

Hoy celebramos la solemnidad, la gran fiesta de Pentecostés. Esta festividad marca varios acontecimientos importantes en la vida
de la Iglesia universal: es el último día del tiempo pascual. Es el día en que el Espíritu Santo viene de Dios Padre y Jesucristo a los apóstoles y a nosotros. Apagamos el cirio pascual y lo colocamos más cerca de la pila bautismal, para queue solo se encienda durante los bautismos y los funerals durante el resto del año litúrgico. El año litúrgico vuelve al “tiempo ordinario” a partir de mañana. Sin
embargo, el próximo domingo y el domingo siguiente, la Iglesia nos invita a celebrar otras dos fiestas importantes: el Domingo de la Trinidad y el Domingo del Corpus Christi, de las que hablaremos más en las próximas semanas.

Por último, Pentecostés se denomina a veces el cumpleaños de la Iglesia, porque es cuando, después de que Jesús se fuera en la Ascensión y enviara al Espíritu Santo, se les dice a los apóstoles (y a nosotros): «Id y haced discípulos a todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo» (Mateo 28:19).

Esta es la cita que el obispo Ed ha utilizado en su proyecto de reinventar la diócesis y revisar el uso de los edificios parroquiales y
escolares, así como para ayudar a determinar cuántas parroquias se necesitan en la diócesis. Hasta la fecha límite de este boletín (a
