Pastor’s Letter/Carta Del Pastor

As I mentioned at Mass last weekend (and will again, this weekend), I sometimes consider these weeks before Advent, the “Season of Gratitude." It is also the time when many charities are seeking donations, and most people are feeling the spirit of giving! With this in mind, may I ask you to prayerfully consider the following?

You may recall the horrific flooding in Texas last July. Below is a specific request that some of our parishioners have received, and a plan to respond, with your help: “Dear fellow parishioners in the CCNCC, we have been in contact with Fr. Scott Janysek, Pastor of the Notre Dame Catholic Church in Kerrville, TX, which was one of the towns hardest hit by the floods. While the residents are on the road to recovery, they still need help. May ask you to donate gift cards, in any amount, that will be sent to the parish to distribute to those most in need; ideally, from Home Depot, Lowe’s, Visa and Mastercard. Although, any card, such as Walmart, True Value Hardware, Tractor Supply, Harbor Freight or Auto Zone, would be appreciated.”

The deadline is Wed., Nov. 19, to be received at the Central Office in Valatie (to ensure arrival in Texas by Thanksgiving). There will be a Texas Flood Gift Card bucket at each church location for gift card collections; you may also donate via check, made payable to Notre Dame Catholic Church, restricted for “flood recovery.” We are also looking for a volunteer or two from St. John’s and St James. Como mencioné en la Misa del fin de semana pasado (y volveré a hacerlo, este fin de semana), a veces considero estas semanas previas al Adviento la “Temporada de Gratitud." También es el momento en que muchas organizaciones benéficas buscan donaciones,
y la mayoría de la gente siente el espíritu de dar. Teniendo esto en cuenta, ¿puedo pedirles que consideren en oración lo siguiente?

Tal vez recuerden las terribles inundaciones de Texas del pasado mes de julio. A continuación se muestra una petición específica que algunos de nuestros feligreses han recibido, y un plan para responder, con su ayuda: "Estimados feligreses de la CCNCC, hemos estado en contacto con el Padre Scott Janysek, párroco de la Iglesia Católica Notre Dame en Kerrville, TX, que fue una de las ciudades más afectadas por las inundaciones. Aunque los residentes están en vías de recuperación, todavía necesitan ayuda. Puede pedirles que donen tarjetas de regalo, de cualquier cantidad, que serán enviadas a la parroquia para distribuirlas entre los más necesitados;  dealmente, de Home Depot, Lowe's, Visa y Mastercard. Aunque, cualquier tarjeta, como Walmart, True Value Hardware, Tractor Supply, Harbor Freight o Auto Zone, sería apreciada".

La fecha límite es el miércoles, 19 de noviembre, para ser recibido en la Oficina Central en Valatie (para asegurar la llegada a Texas por Acción de Gracias). Habrá un cubo de tarjetas de regalo de la inundación de Texas en cada ubicación de la iglesia para las colecciones
de tarjetas de regalo; también puede donar a través de cheque, a nombre de Notre Dame Catholic Church, restringido para la «recuperación de la inundación.» Gracias por su ayuda.
