The Catholic Community of Northern Columbia County

In my first assignment, there was an elementary school attached and as the end of June approached, the teachers and students were very excited for summer vacation. I asked a number of teachers who was looking forward to the summer break more - the students or the teachers. Most, if not all, of the teachers said they were. However, I also got the sense that the students, despite them going to a Catholic School thought that since the school would be closed, so would the church. I spent the last few days of school year reminding them that while school was closed for summer vacation, the church would be open! I think the children thought I was joking! Sad to say, I didn't see many of them again until the Fall.

While in the Autumn we see signs that remind us to "drive carefully" school's open, I wonder if we should get bumper stickers
that have the message "school's out for summer, but church is still open." 

I wish you all a relaxing time, whether it's here in Columbia County, someplace near a lake, river, ocean or camp on an occasional  get away for a change of pace, with or without children, etc. I hope it's safe, fun and that it includes God. As you know, God is everywhere and even if you can't find a place to go to mass, you can pray and thank God for love, safe travel, food, good weather, and the list goes on. En mi primer destino, había una escuela primaria adjunta y, a medida que se acercaba el final de junio, los profesores y los alumnos estaban muy emocionados por las vacaciones de verano. Pregunté a varios profesores quiénes estaban más ilusionados con las vacaciones de verano: si los alumnos o los profesores. La mayoría, si no todos, dijeron que ellos. Sin embargo, también tuve la sensación de que los alumnos, a pesar de asistir a una escuela católica, pensaban que, como la escuela estaría cerrada, la iglesia también lo estaría. Pasé los últimos días del curso escolar recordándoles que, aunque la escuela cerrara por las vacaciones de verano, ¡la iglesia seguiría abierta! Creo que los niños pensaron que estaba bromeando. Lamentablemente, no volví a ver a muchos
de ellos hasta el otoño.

Mientras que en otoño vemos carteles que nos recuerdan que «conduzcamos con cuidado» porque las escuelas están abiertas, me pregunto si no deberíamos poner pegatinas en los parachoques con el mensaje «las escuelas están cerradas por vacaciones de verano, pero la iglesia sigue abierta. 

Les deseo a todos que disfruten de un tiempo de descanso, ya sea aquí en el condado de Columbia, en algún lugar cerca de un lago,
un río, el mar o un campamento, en una escapada ocasional para cambiar de aires, con o sin niños, etc. Espero que sea seguro, divertido y que incluya a Dios. Como saben, Dios está en todas partes e incluso si no pueden encontrar un lugar para ir a misa,
pueden rezar y dar gracias a Dios por el amor, los viajes seguros, la comida, el buen tiempo, y la lista continúa. Por último, consulten
