I was 22 years old, lying in bed one night while on a pilgrimage, when I suddenly sensed an idea in my mind: "Go to the seminary."
There was no voice, no vision, but a gentle and unmistakable clarity. I simply prayed, "Lord, if that's from you, let me find great joy
in it." Three days later, my heart was bursting with joy. I dropped everything and entered the seminary. The older I get, the stranger my rather careless and hasty departure seems to me. I followed not because it made sense, or because I was especially brave. I went because the Lord called me.

Something like this happens in today's Gospel. Jesus walks by Simon, Andrew, James, and John and says, "Come after me" (Matthew 4:19). And immediately they leave their nets and follow. There's no explanation, no hesitation... just movement. Why? As St. John says, "In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us" (1 John 4:10). They do not leave their nets because his call made perfect, calculable sense. They left them because they were called. And Jesus' call is powerful.

Take a moment this week to remember when Christ first called you. However small or quiet it was, recall it, and give thanks. The more we marvel that Christ has called us personally, the more passionately and freely we will follow him.

Tercer domingo del tiempo ordinario Mateo 4, 12-23

Tenía 22 años y estaba acostado en la cama una noche durante una peregrinación, cuando de repente sentí una idea en mi mente:
«Ve al seminario». No hubo ninguna voz, ninguna visión, sino una claridad suave e inequívoca. Simplemente recé: «Señor, si eso viene de ti, haz que encuentre una gran alegría en ello». Tres días después, mi corazón rebosaba de alegría. Lo dejé todo y entré en el seminario. Cuanto más envejezco, más extraña me parece mi partida, bastante descuidada y precipitada. No lo hice porque tuviera sentido, ni porque fuera especialmente valiente. Lo hice porque el Señor me llamó.

Algo parecido ocurre en el Evangelio de hoy. Jesús se acerca a Simón, Andrés, Santiago y Juan y les dice: «Venid en pos de mí» (Mateo 4, 19). Y ellos inmediatamente dejan sus redes y le siguen. No hay explicación, ni vacilación... solo movimiento. ¿Por qué? Como dice San Juan: «En esto consiste el amor: no en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino en que él nos amó a nosotros » (1 Juan 4, 10). No dejan sus redes porque su llamada tenga un sentido perfecto y calculable. Las dejan porque han sido llamados. Y la llamada de Jesús es poderosa.

Esta semana, dedica un momento a recordar cuándo te llamó Cristo por primera vez. Por pequeña o discreta que fuera, recuérdala y da gracias. Cuanto más nos maravillemos de que Cristo nos haya llamado personalmente, con más pasión y libertad le seguiremos.
