Today is the 3^rd Sunday of Advent with another story involving John the Baptist. He is quoted when he sent his disciples to Jesus to ask: Are you the One who is to come?  Another quote from John: “Prepare the Way of the Lord.”

How have you been preparing?  What about your spiritual preparation?  Have you started or completed any?  Advent is halfway through, what is different from two weeks ago?  Did you take the opportunity to go to confession this past Monday?  If not, there are some limited times still to come before the 21^st (see inside). Have you spent any extra time in prayer? 

John points to the one who is to come. He wasn’t sure if it was Jesus, but he did know that they (and us) needed to prepare the way of the Lord!  Have you made ready the way for Jesus? What do you need to do before Jesus’ arrival – on December 25 or when He comes again?

The Spanish have two traditions during the month of December – one is the novena to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe – usually 9 nights of praying together.  The second is the Posada, where they recall that Mary and Joseph went looking for a place to sleep because Mary was about to give birth.  The Posada is more of a festive activity with some prayer.  I think many of us are usually good at the party part – what about the prayer part? Hoy es el tercer domingo de Adviento con otra historia que involucra a Juan el Bautista.  Se le cita cuando envió a sus discípulos a Jesús para preguntarle: ¿Eres tú el que ha de venir?  Otra cita de Juan: "Preparad el camino del Señor".

¿Cómo te has estado preparando?  ¿Qué hay de tu preparación espiritual?  ¿Has comenzado o completado alguno?  El Adviento está a mitad de camino, ¿cuáles diferente al de hace dos semanas?  ¿Aprovechó la oportunidad para confesarse el lunes pasado?  Si no, hay algunos tiempos limitados aún por venir antes del 21⁽ver dentro).  ¿Has pasado algún tiempo extra en oración? 

Juan señala al que ha de venir.  No estaba seguro de si era Jesús, ¡pero sí sabía que ellos (y nosotros) necesitamos preparar el camino del Señor!   ¿Has preparado el camino para Jesús? ¿Qué necesitas hacer antes de la llegada de Jesús, el 25 de diciembre o cuando Él venga de nuevo?

Los españoles tienen dos tradiciones durante el mes de diciembre: una es la novena para honrar a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, generalmente 9 noches de oración juntos.  La segunda es la Posada, donde recuerdan que María y José fueron a buscar un lugar para dormir, porque Mary estaba a punto de dar a luz.  La Posada es más una actividad festiva con algo de oración.  Creo que muchos de nosotros solemos ser buenos en la parte de la fiesta, ¿qué pasa con la parte de oración?  ¡Todavía hay tiempo para prepararse para el que está por venir!     P.
