Today we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King – the King of the Universe!

This feast means a number of things. First is the fact that Jesus is or should be our King. Not in the sense of any sovereign or political leader here on earth, but as the center and focus of our lives. He should be the primary reason for all actions and words. Secondly, it means that the Holy Season of Advent starts next weekend. Hopefully, by now you have received a copy of the Advent and Christmas calendar of events that are offered during the next seven weeks.

Part of what is coming this week is that we celebrate Thanksgiving, which is one of my favorite “holidays.” While I enjoy eating, I enjoy Thanksgiving more because our country has set this day aside to give thanks to God! May I invite you to join in our five opportunities to give thanks to God this week. Please see inside for our daily mass schedule for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please also see inside for information about the Interfaith Prayer Service on this Tuesday night at St. James in Chatham, the Ecumenical Prayer Service at the First Presbyterian Church in Valatie on Wednesday night as well as the Bilingual Thanksgiving Mass at St. John the Baptist this
Thursday at 10 am.

Lastly, if Jesus isn’t your king, perhaps this Advent Season will be a wonderful opportunity for you and your loved ones to become closer to Him in prayer and acts of charity. Please join us!

¡Hoy celebramos la Fiesta de Cristo Rey, el Rey del Universo!

Esta fiesta significa varias cosas. Primero está el hecho de que Jesús es o debería ser nuestro Rey. No en el sentido de cualquier soberano o líder político aquí en la tierra, sino como el centro y enfoque de nuestras vidas. Él debe ser la razón principal de todas las acciones y palabras.

En segundo lugar, significa que la Temporada Santa de Adviento comienza el próximo fin de semana. Con suerte, ya ha recibido
una copia del calendario de eventos de Adviento y Navidad que se ofrecen durante las próximas siete semanas.

Parte de lo que viene esta semana es que celebramos el Día de Acción de Gracias, que es uno de mis “días festivos” favoritos. Si bien disfruto comer, disfruto más el Día de Acción de Gracias porque nuestro país ha apartado este día para dar gracias a Dios. Permítame invitarlo a unirse a nuestras cinco oportunidades para dar gracias a Dios esta semana.
