Recently, many of us experienced the first significant amount of snow for this winter.  Some stayed home and missed Mass for the Solemnity of the Epiphany, and were safe not sorry. However, the Epiphany is a significant day on the Church calendar as it reveals that Jesus is the King of Kings. For those who missed Mass that day, may I invite you to go online and watch the Mass, if you haven’t already done so?  Perhaps you would read the Bulletin for more information about this important feast. As previously mentioned, none of the events of Jesus birth and life mean anything unless they are in context of His Passion and Resurrection.  Over the next few weeks, we’ll hear that Jesus invited the 12 Apostles and many others as Disciples to join him.  We will also be invited by Jesus to join!  Perhaps this is a very good time to renew our prayer as the Holy Season of Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving, aka Lent, will begin in five short weeks on Ash Wednesday, which is February 14, 2024 this year. While we are still in the “new year,” this is a very good time to start preparing for Lent and we can re-visit what our spiritual needs are in order to be better prepared for Easter (March 31, 2024). Stay tuned as more on Lent, Holy Week and Easter will be forthcoming. Lastly, more explanation of “Ordinary Time” on the Church’s calendar will be available in next week’s edition of the bulletin.

Recientemente, muchos de nosotros experimentamos la primera cantidad significativa de nieve de este invierno. Algunos se quedaron en casa y faltaron a la Misa de la Solemnidad de la Epifanía, y no se arrepintieron. Sin embargo, la Epifanía es un día importante en el calendario de la Iglesia ya que revela que Jesús es el Rey de reyes. Como se mencionó anteriormente, ninguno de los eventos del nacimiento y la vida de Jesús significa nada a menos que estén en el contexto de Su Pasión y Resurrección. Durante las próximas semanas, escucharemos que Jesús invitó a los 12 Apóstoles y a muchos otros como Discípulos a unirse a él. ¡Jesús también nos invitará a unirnos! Quizás este sea un muy buen momento para renovar nuestra oración, ya que el Tiempo Santo de Oración, Ayuno y Limosna, también conocido como Cuaresma, comenzará en cinco breves semanas, el Miércoles de Ceniza, que este año es el 14 de febrero de 2024. Si bien todavía estamos en el “año nuevo”, este es un muy buen momento para comenzar a prepararnos para la Cuaresma y podemos revisar cuáles son nuestras necesidades espirituales para estar mejor preparados para la Pascua (31 de marzo de 2024). Estén atentos porque habrá más información sobre la Cuaresma, la Semana Santa y la Pascua. Por último, en la edición del boletín de la próxima semana habrá más explicaciones sobre el “Tiempo Ordinario” en el calendario de la Iglesia.
