In my experience, one of the peculiarities of being a man is the somewhat unlikely ability to look into the mirror, no matter how out of shape he may be, and declare with full confidence: “Looking good, buddy!” Ask a man. He’ll probably confirm it. Therein lies a mystery. You might think I refer to man’s ability to deceive himself or his propensity toward vainglory. But in this case, I refer to the mystery of a healthy and proper sense of self-love. We human beings (both men and women) have the utterly weird ability to look at ourselves as if we were another. Then we tend to love this “other.” Then, somehow, that love becomes a bond between the two. We are three and
yet one.

This Sunday is Trinity Sunday. We ponder anew that God in His unity is a play of multiplicity: Lover, Beloved, and shared Love. Or, as we also proclaim, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. If we allow it, this mystery heals our temptation toward self-hatred and destruction. We all know how awful it is to look into the mirror and not know the person we see, or, equally bad, to know and hate who we see. Jesus, the Son of God, draws us into the dynamics of authentic self-knowledge and self-love. Perhaps we could ask the Holy Trinity this Sunday to teach us to truly look at ourselves and to properly love who we see looking back. — Father John Muir ©LP

Gloria al Padre, al Hijo y al Espíritu Santo. Como era en el principio, ahora y siempre, por los siglos de los siglos. Amén. Esta oración la hemos aprendido desde niños. La rezamos al finalizar las oraciones. Es una alabanza a la divinidad, especialmente a la Trinidad. Tres personas distintas y un solo Dios verdadero. Diversidad y unidad al mismo tiempo. Creemos todo esto porque Jesús mismo nos lo reveló, y en diferentes pasajes de la Sagrada Escritura, se ha manifestado la Trinidad. Dios rebasa nuestra inteligencia y supera la
capacidad de entendimiento. Dios Trino es amor, compasión y perdón. En su vida de predicación, ministerio y milagros, Jesús revela la misericordia del Padre y la gracia del Espíritu Santo.

Somos incapaces de entender el misterio de Dios. Solo nos queda hacer lo que Moisés, cuando Dios pasó delante de él en una nube: adorarlo, bendecirlo y alabarlo por siempre. “Al momento Moisés cayó al suelo de rodillas, adorando a Dios” (Éxodo 34,8). Hoy, también, en el texto de Daniel, en lugar del salmo responsorial, la liturgia nos invita a alabar al Señor: “Bendito seas, Señor, Dios de nuestros padres, que tu Nombre sea alabado y glorificado eternamente. Porque eres justo en todo lo que has hecho, todas tus obras son verdaderas, rectos todos tus caminos, y verdaderos todos tus juicios (Daniel 3,26-27). Solo nos resta en todas las actividades y trabajo invocar a la Trinidad. ¡Que Dios uno y Trino viva en los corazones de toda la humanidad y llene de paz y armonía al mundo! ©LPi
