The feast of the Three Kings or Epiphany is very important for many cultures throughout the world.  It is a wonderful day to continue our Christmas celebrations! Certainly our Spanish Community celebrates this day with more importance than that of Christmas Day. The three kings followed the star until it stopped over the place where the baby was. If you think about it, Christmas is important because it is the day that God sent His Son, Jesus, from Heaven to the Earth to be with us and ultimately, to save us.  However, we don’t know much about this baby when he is first born. We don’t realize that he is the King of Kings, until the arrival of the Three Kings who acknowledged Jesus as the Son of God. They came to pay him homage.  Of course, we know that the gifts they brought gold, frankincense and myrrh – all expensive gifts – then and now.  But what is the significance of these three gifts?

Gold – signified Jesus’ status as the new-born King of the Jews.  Frankincense was offered as a symbol of worship to the divinity of Jesus as the Son of God. Myrrh was given in anticipation of his death so that it would be one of the spices that he would be anointed with.

After today, believers everywhere know that Jesus, born of Mary, is known as the king of kings, the Son of God and Son of Mary, who has saved us from our sins.  What gifts will you offer to Him?  How will you celebrate?

La fiesta de los Reyes Magos o Epifanía es muy importante para muchas culturas de todo el mundo.  Es un día maravilloso para continuar nuestras celebraciones navideñas. Ciertamente nuestra Comunidad española celebra este día con más importancia que el día de Navidad. Los Reyes Magos siguieron la estrella hasta que se detuvo sobre el lugar donde estaba el niño. Si lo piensas bien, la Navidad es importante porque es el día en que Dios envió a su Hijo, Jesús, del Cielo a la Tierra para estar con nosotros y, en última instancia, para salvarnos.  Sin embargo, no sabemos mucho sobre este bebé cuando nace. No nos damos cuenta de que es el Rey de Reyes, hasta la llegada de los Reyes Magos que reconocieron a Jesús como el Hijo de Dios. Vinieron a rendirle homenaje.  Por supuesto, sabemos que los regalos que trajeron eran oro, incienso y mirra, todos regalos caros, antes y ahora.  Pero, ¿cuál es el significado de estos tres regalos?

El oro significaba la condición de Jesús como Rey de los judíos recién nacido.  El incienso se ofrecía como símbolo de adoración a la divinidad de Jesús como Hijo de Dios. La mirra se dio en previsión de su muerte para que fuera una de las especias con las que sería ungido.

Después de hoy, los creyentes de todo el mundo saben que Jesús, nacido de María, es conocido como el rey de reyes, el Hijo de Dios e Hijo de María, que nos ha salvado de nuestros pecados.  ¿Qué regalos le ofrecerás?  ¿Cómo lo celebrarás?
