As you may know, many churches have small memorial crosses displayed somewhere in the church building. At St. John the Baptist in Valatie, they are near the sanctuary on the side wall. At St. James in Chatham, it is hanging on the back wall near the Daily Mass chapel. We plan to add memorial crosses at St. Joseph’s in the near future. While the tradition has been at St. John’s for quite some time, at St. James we just started this tradition last week with the placement of the memorial cross in memory of Jeanne DuBois, long time parishioner.

At the beginning of each funeral mass, the cross with the deceased person’s name on it is either placed on the casket or near the urn with the cremated remains of the deceased. The cross remains on the casket (or near the urn) throughout the funeral mass. At the end of the funeral, we ask a member of the family to carry the cross to the memorial area and place it on the wall. These crosses are kept on the wall as a remembrance and time of prayer for approximately one year, at which time it is mailed to the family. Cruces conmemorativas en funerales

Como sabrás, muchas iglesias tienen pequeñas cruces conmemorativas exhibidas en algún lugar del edificio de la iglesia. En San Juan Bautista en Valatie, están cerca del santuario en la pared lateral. En St. James en Chatham, it está colgado en la pared trasera cerca Misa diaria Capilla. Planeamos agregar cruces memoriales en parroquia de San Jose’ en un futuro cercano.
