"The value of persistent prayer is not that God will hear us, but that we will finally hear God.”
Alleluia!
On entering the tomb they saw a young man
sitting on the right side, clothed in a white robe,
and they were utterly amazed.
He said to them, “Do not be amazed!
You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified.
He has been raised; he is not here.”
The emotional rollercoaster that is Holy Week has ended with the Resurrection of Jesus, but Mary Magdalene and the others who saw the open tomb were confused and fearful. They were at the Cross when Jesus died, and saw him laid in a tomb that was then sealed. Yet, Jesus is no longer there. It takes a while for them to remember all that Jesus told them about his dying and rising. And for many of them, to recognize him when he appears to them.
2000 years later, through the lens of the Gospels, we know that the promises Jesus made are fulfilled and that his death was not an ending of life, but an opportunity for all of us to receive new life through discipleship. May we all be aware of his presence among us. May we continue to serve others not only as fellow travelers on the road to eternal life, but see the face of Jesus in everyone. ALLELUIA!
