Weekend of April 6 and 7, 2024

"The value of persistent prayer is not that God will hear us, but that we will finally hear God.”

Peace be with you…

This weekend’s Gospel recounts another of Jesus’s appearance to his disciples after his resurrection.  The disciples were locked in a room, fearful of what would happen to them:

“Jesus came and stood in their midst
and said to them, "Peace be with you."
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side.
The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you.”

What reassuring words to a group charged with spreading the message of Jesus!  There was no “where were you when I needed you?” or “why is the door locked when I told you to spread my message?”  Instead, Jesus says “Peace be with you.”  This is an invitation to breathe in his love, and is the same invitation we receive during the celebration of the Mass, and one we share with others as a prayer:  “Peace be with you.”

Jesus, God of love, may we each open up the locked rooms of our hearts and share this blessing with others.
