This coming Thursday is the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. We celebrate this in the Universal Church on two different days. I remember when I was traveling in the USA, and it was very confusing. Some dioceses celebrate it on Sunday, and other dioceses celebrate on Thursdays. A number of years ago, the United States Bishops, with the approval of Rome, decided that each 
Ecclesiastical Province of the United States (of which there are 35) would decide which day to celebrate this important event in the
life of the Church. Our Province, that of the entire state of New York, has chosen to celebrate it each year on Thursday – 40 days after the Resurrection of Jesus. Therefore, there will be three Masses to celebrate it this week. Click here for mass times.   It is a particularlyimportant day in the Pascal Mystery of Jesus and the life of our faith. May I invite you to come to Mass in the CCNCC or go to Mass near where you work or where your travels take you this Thursday. Before Jesus returns to God the Father, He tells His disciples that He will be sending the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, to help them and us. May our Risen Lord continue to bless us as we pray for the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost into the world and into our hearts! God Bless, Father Steve

El próximo jueves es la Solemnidad de la Ascensión del Señor. En la Iglesia universal la celebramos en dos días distintos. Recuerdo cuando viajaba por los Estados Unidos, y era muy confuso. Algunas diócesis la celebran el domingo, y otras el jueves. Hace unos años, los Obispos de Estados Unidos, con la aprobación de Roma, decidieron que cada Provincia Eclesiástica de Estados Unidos (que son 35) decidiera qué día celebrar este importante acontecimiento en la vida de la Iglesia. Nuestra Provincia, la de todo el estado de Nueva York, ha elegido celebrarlo cada año el jueves, 40 días después de la Resurrección de Jesús.
